The first step - especially for young people with energy and drive and talent, but not money - the first step to controlling your world is to control your culture. To model and demonstrate the kind of world you demand to live in. To write the books. Make the music. Shoot the films. Paint the art.

Cheap thrils...

People may feel that I have no right to talk about sales as they may consider me a week late, BUT please leave your protesting and placards at home, well least until I have had a chance to reason and explain my absence.

You see I have a cunning plan this year, we (that’s the fashion savvy aka you and I) are very aware that in fact the stores do not place they're real bargain sales until this week! Yup that is right guys, so I being of the humble and generous sort, have devised an important list of rules for when you are ready to tackle the ever amounting snow and go shop!

Rule 1: KNOW WHERE YOU’RE GOING

that’s right, select the shops that you want to go to most, you will think this is a kind of a standard rule, but you will not believe the amount of people that just "go for a look" and then end up spending all that hard earned holiday cash in one store.

Rule 2: DRESS APPROPRIATLY

Successful shopping requires tons of sugar and caffeine and appropriate clothing, don’t dress glamorously with 6" heels, instead wear comfortable shoes, and clothes that you can take off in a flash. The changing rooms might be full or have a tediously long queue so you may want to change in front of any available mirrors, if this is the case, I cannot stress enough, please wear undergarments that you won’t mind other people seeing.

Rule 3: REALLY LOOK AT WAHT YOU’RE BUYING

Sometimes when you buy things that are in the sale they may not be returnable, so please check that there is no sequins missing, holes, moth bites, buttons coming loose, broken zip, hidden goblins... That is unless you can alter these minor problems yourself, and adopt the goblin. Otherwise leave these items behind!

Rule 4: KNOW WHAT YOU WANT

If your plan is to shop for THAT winter coat then shop for a winter coat. Yes it’s great when you find another pair of jeans for half the price but don’t forget about your budget; more often than not you didn’t actually need that extra pair of jeans...

Rule 5: BUT IT’S DESIGNER?!

Just because it has a famous name stitched on the inside does not make it the bargain that you might think it to be. If it doesn’t fit well or just damn well ugly then put it down! There is a reason that it didn’t sell full price... and it’s usually staring you right in the face.

And last but not least,

Rule 6: TRENDS

Don’t buy into trends! There is always an abundance of past trend clothes on the sail racks, there is a reason for this, THEY ARE NO LONGER TRENDY. Put down the sequined poncho's ladies...

But if like me you are snowed in then there is only ever one solution... shop online! Now where’s my cocoa....

  1. What I would like to know is...do you follow your own advice?

Shopping online is great but it's a pain in the backside when you have to send it all back because the fit is wrong...etc etc...i know from plenty of past experience :-D
