The first step - especially for young people with energy and drive and talent, but not money - the first step to controlling your world is to control your culture. To model and demonstrate the kind of world you demand to live in. To write the books. Make the music. Shoot the films. Paint the art.

Glam, Sequins, Red, dresses, Shoes, Men....

Hurrah! Award season is upon us and whilst I agree that we don’t necessarily have any of the glitz and glammer of any prestigious award ceremony here in Manchester there is nothing to stop us from admiring and lusting after the very glamorous dresses that hit the red carpet.

I absolutely adore looking through all the pictures that fall into my inbox after a very practically glamorous night over in the States; the beautiful dresses, great accessories and of course those very bad fashion mistakes that you can’t help but simultaneously wince and laugh at.

Now what was very apparent at the latest event (the less glamorous sister of the Oscars, the Golden Globes) was the very stark contrast between the dresses worn on the red carpet.
The first crop of dresses ranged in bright’s and bold in-your-face colours and whilst I am very much an advocate for bright colours; I do find them depressing when the weather is particularly bleak and tans have faded long ago. What was much more interesting was the other selection of dresses, which were gorgeous nudes and faded pastels, bang on trend for Spring Summer 2010 Romantic style.

Nude coloured clothes and sheer fabrics will be flooding the high street this summer and will be big this season and next and what's so lovely about nude fabrics is that it’s not too white and gaudy but certainly not boring and beige.

To be able to wear nudes successfully you have to remember to pick a shade that suits your skin tone, nudes can have a tendency to wash out colour. Be bold and contrast your nudes with neutral shades like brown, navy and slate grey’s, or be super fashion forward and use black as seen on the runway at Bottega Veneta.

Secondly please make sure that it’s not too tight, anything that can appear as excess or folded skin is NEVER appealing and frankly bodycon only ever works with super bold colours, so save them for summer.

Try to look for nude fabrics that drape or better yet are ruffled to create that gorgeous feminine silhouette that make you appear ethereal.

To be able to wear sheer as seen on the catwalk, it’s important to remember to layer, with this perfect seasonal weather to play with you can build up subtle layers of fabrics and colour tones to create that extra pizzazz. Use your fabulous lingerie to your advantage and show of your lacy camisoles under your sheer blouse.

So remember pastel ruffles, underwear as outerwear detailing, gorgeous heals and fabulous accessories are all that’s needed for the red carpet so why not dress to impress and take the plunge to become the best dressed no matter where you are, after all there is only ever one way to banish the January blues and there something to be said about that feeling of having dressed for the red carpet on a very dull January morning and so what if the only red carpet you see is the one at the office, embrace your inner diva and pose...
